Mitchell S. Milby, Hon. AIA, Hon. TxA
Founder and Principal

 

Mitchell Milby, a dynamic trial lawyer and a trusted adviser for over 25 years, advises foreign and domestic businesses on matters across Texas, Oklahoma, and other venues, including Florida and California, and mediates business and construction disputes. He has tried more than 100 cases to verdict during his career. His areas of concentration in the design & construction and energy industries are:

 

• corporate formation/governance;

• all aspects of contracts and deal-making (owner agreements, architect/engineer agreements, specialty contractor agreements, manufacturer & equipment sale and lease agreements, employment/independent contractor agreements); and 

• managing trial and alternative dispute resolution matters.

 

Mitchell is a 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 Super Lawyer® and has regularly achieved one of law’s most distinctive honors: A-V®Preeminent™ 5.0 out of 5, according to the standard-setting Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ that measures the highest levels of ability and ethical integrity for lawyers. The exceptionally high rating repeatedly places Milby on the prestigious Texas’ TopRated Lawyers list, which was published in The Wall Street Journal, The Dallas Morning News, The Houston Chronicle and The San Antonio Express News. Mitchell is an honorary member of both the American Institute of Architects (Dallas Chapter) and the Texas Association of Architects. Honorary AIA and TxA Membership is conferred upon individuals who have made notable contributions to the advancement of the architecture profession.

 

Mitchell is a Life Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation, a distinction held by only the most respected members of the State Bar (less than 1/3 of 1 percent of the membership of the State Bar is nominated annually). Early in his career, he was a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), following his service as a criminal prosecutor and in-house counsel to the Dallas Chief of Police and Command Staff.

An active instructor, Mitchell has been a speaker at AIA National Conventions, the Texas Society of Architects state conventions, the Dallas & Fort Worth AIA chapters, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, and is an ongoing guest lecturer for the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. He received the AIA Professional Affiliate of the Year Award (2012) and the Consultant Award (2019) from the Dallas AIA chapter.


His opinions have been published in the AIA publication, Columns, the Dallas Business Journal, Texas Bar Journal, and the Texas Lawyer. He serves on the advisory board for the Dallas AIA publication, Columns
 

Mitchell is an Ironman Triathlon finisher, a two-time finisher of the Portland Marathon, a finisher of the Dallas White Rock and San Antonio Marathons, and holds several awards for running races in Texas and Oregon, where he attended law school. He lives in Southlake, Texas, where he is a volunteer coach for youth sports and swims with the North Texas Nadadores Masters.
